Today at ELITEAM we… started the day with a quick run, followed by stretching and core. We fueled up for a big morning of testing with breakfast sandwiches, french toast, fresh berries and melon. At 8:30 campers sat down for a notebook meeting and set their sights and goals high for the morning of testing. They would measure their abilities on the vertical jump, flexibility, broad jump, box jumps, push-ups, sit-ups, tires and Berg. As if testing wasn’t enough, we jumped into circuit training, cranked the tunes and pushed each other to make it count. We all left dripping in sweat but full of smiles. A camp wide game of dodgeball marked the ending of the morning session. Following lunch campers broke off into rotations between a TRX workout, cooking and the woods obstacle. Campers baked up a pumpkin pecan pie storm jacked up with nutrients from chia seeds, raw honey, organic apple sauce, almond flour and apple cider vinegar. By 5:00pm campers were ready to roll in their 70’s flared jeans, disco tops, beads, and glitter. After dinner we were all treated to ice cream and the delicious-nutritious pumpkin pies they made earlier. The night ended with a movie (the Sandlot) and then straight to bed at 9:00!
Top moments of your day and why?
Ben H – Circuits because it was energizing and cooking because getting messy was fun.
Julian – Love the TRX because it was challenging, but not impossible. I liked the cooking because we used all natural ingredients to makes something that tastes so good.
Max – The Plyo was fun and you got to do a variety of exercises. I also liked cooking the pie that we get to eat.
Ian – Fitness testing was really fun because all my tests went really well. I also liked dodgeball because I had never played classic dodgeball.
Will S – The hula hoops in the circuit. The slideboard was also awesome.
Ethan – Circuits were non stop action. In dodgeball I got coach Zack out multiple times and then he targeted me the rest of the game!
Nate B – Dodgeball because I got Zack out. And cooking because the pies look so good.
How did today’s training help you become a better athlete?
Ben H – It made me feel better prepared for different scenarios.
Julian – I am learning every day and things like the marine wall were easier today.
Max – The Workouts today made me sore and I will be getting stronger later.
Ian – Although I cut myself in the obstacle I decided to still run and it taught me to push through my limits.
Will S – I realize now my strengths and weaknesses.
Ethan – The TRX helped my muscles.
Nate B – I feel stronger and more confident.
Coaches Highlights:
Coach Zack: Julian was supper supportive in the balance portion of the TRX rotation. He would cheer on his teammates in the one leg routine as he completed it.
Coach Tasha: I laughed when Cha said to Coach Chauncey “that really is a small dog on your head” speaking about his wig.
Coach Julia: I loved seeing how excited the kids got to make their pies and learn about the awesome ingredients we put in it.
