2018 WC2 Mon- This is going to be an AWESOME week!

July 16, 2018 by ELITEAM Leave a Comment

Today at ELITEAM we…

Started off by collecting rocks down at the river. Each camper selected their own rock and named or decorated it before placing it ceremoniously on the ELITEAM Shrine, where we all took the “Tougher, Stronger, Fitter, Faster” Pledge. That is our ELITEAM theme for the month and each day at camp will be a new challenge based on one of those four.

Next we jumped into action with a 4 station rotation, each one representing Tougher, Stronger, Fitter or Faster… 100 yard burpee sprints made us “Tougher”, boxing made us “Stronger”, the obstacle course made us “Faster”, and a memorization game helped us get “Fitter” mentally.

At dinner we loaded up our plates with spaghetti and meatballs to refuel for the evening activities. I checked the green bean bowl and we actually made a big dent in it!

During our camp meeting we watched part of a commencement speech that explained why making your bed in the morning is important. This year, all campers will be required to make their beds before morning warm-up. Girls vs boys dorm competition! The girls dorm won last week, so the male coaches are focused on instructing and inspiring a win this week for the boys. Stay tuned! Here’s a link to the speech if you’d like to check it out:
Admiral William H. McRaven- University of Texas at Austin 2014 (We watched from minutes 3-6.)

Next up was an agility pole workout. We challenged the campers to do some intricate moves and there were a lot of successes, as well as some struggles. In the end I think all of the campers now have some new moves in their agility repertoire. We ended with some fun relays which included many of our favorite moves – Molly Hops, High-Knee Butt-Kicks,  Nose in the Ground Sprints and Side Shuffles with Jazz Hands. The coaches were doing everything alongside the campers which added to the chaos and fun.

The kids are now tucked into bed with the lights out. All is quiet in the dorms, resting up for tomorrow!
