Today marked the 34th edition of ELITEAM’s legendary Sandpit Slalom—and wow, what a wild ride! The course was tight, the sand was “slippery,” and the competition was fierce. Campers took three training runs to scout out the fastest line and figure out how to use the berms to their advantage. But when it was time to race, it was all in.
Some found the secret line and were able to keep momentum and speed. Others went a little too big… and ended up in the ruts and covered in sand. But every single camper hiked back up, gave it their all, and crossed the finish line with grit and determination. In the end, Imogen and Zeke came out on top, but the real win? Everyone learned the power of inspection, visualization, and how to embrace failure like a champ. And yes, we celebrated with well-earned popsicles!
After refueling with a protein-packed Mac n’ Cheese lunch, it was time to dig deep for physical testing. Even with some sore legs from earlier in the week, the campers brought full energy to every challenge—from one-legged squats to 20-yard sprints to the infamous Berg Und Thal. We finished strong with some Partner Yoga, Stretching, and a little Boxing, just for good measure!
Then came the moment many had been waiting for… Dress-Up Night! The theme? Stripes, Duct Tape, and Glasses. And let us tell you—these campers and Coaches delivered. The creativity and commitment were off the charts (wait till you see the photos!).
After dinner, it was time to Limbo! Every single camper gave it a shot with many going super low. But in the end it was Hadden and Lucy going head-to-head in a fierce final round—both earning the crown! We closed out the night in the Common Room, with blankets and pillows for an inspiring screening of MIRACLE. Because what better way to end a day of teamwork and perseverance than with a story that embodies both?
Another epic day at ELITEAM in the books!
And here’s what the boys had to say about Day 4…
Describe the Sandpit Slalom and what is key to going fast? Why?
- Cash M: The Sandpit SL was high up and with a ton of rocks, and the key to going fast is just sprinting and run.
- Simms P: The Sandpit was a lot of fun and it was fast and steep, so jumping into the turns was a good idea. Also maintaining a high line was key.
- Indy M: The Sandpit SL was very rocky and steep. The key to going fast was taking long strides in between turns and start strides in the turn.
- Hadden B-L: Today we did the Sandpit SL and I placed second. You need to plant your feet and jump with both feet.
- Finn H: Having quick feet and light steps because it is soft.
- Lochlan M: It is slippery and to go fast you need quick feet. The hill is pretty steep so you need to look ahead.
How is the food at camp? What has been your favorite meal?
- Cash M: The food’s fine. My favorite meal was Taco Tuesday.
- Simms P: Great, the staff is so nice and I’m liking Gould. I liked the chicken and all the food is really good.
- Indy M: The food at camp is good. My favorite food was the ham, egg and cheese croissant.
- Hadden B-L: The food is great although there is a lack of dessert…. My favorite meal has been grilled chicken for lunch.
- Finn H: Good, my favorite was ham, cheese and egg croissant.
- Lochlan M: The food here is good with excellent nutrition. My favorite meal so far has been mac and cheese.
What did it feel like when you were boxing?
- Cash M: It was hot and sweaty with red and black.
- Simms P: I didn’t do boxing because of my wrist but it looked like fun!
- Indy M: It was a lot of fun but very difficult.
- Hadden B-L: Boxing felt exhilarating even though Ben was a little far away. Love you!
- Finn H: Good because it felt good to get the gloves on again.
- Lochlan M: It was hot and quick. It was also quite easy but intense.
