Another awesome day of pushing limits at ELITEAM! This time the focus was on running the annual Dual Sandpit Slalom. It is a 20 second run down a steep Sandpit around 14 bamboo gates – including a jump a third of the way down. It involves risk, agility, strength, power and complete abandon!
After an inspection, the campers did four training runs trading courses and learning the line, footwork and the necessary risk level so you find speed, but don’t crash. And there were plenty of crashes! Finally it was time to bring out the timers and add the element of the “Race Run” pressure. But the campers all responded with more risk and reward! -as well as some epic faceplants. Everyone had smiles as well as sand on their faces!
Congrats to this year’s Sandpit Slalom Winners – Liam and Imogen! After all the runs were over and with their shoes packed with sand, we headed to the lake to swim, wash off and cool down!
After refueling at Lunch it was back to work with Physical Testing (not the greatest time as they are 800 burpees in and quite sore), but they all rallied to do their best! Then it was time for another rotation – this one included Boxing, a Team Challenge and more Tramps!
Finally it was time for dinner followed by a chow session of their Black Bean Brownies, a limbo contest and a Movie – this year we showed the classic “The Sandlot”. All were asleep by 9pm!
Today is more awesomeness as we head to the Killington Resort to Downhill Mtn Bike and scare ourselves on the Wrecktangle Ninja Course and the High Ropes!
Here are some thoughts from the Boys!
What was your favorite activity today and why?
- Sonny V – Mine was the sandpit SL, this is because it was fast and fun.
- Indy M – The tramp because I like to push myself.
- Ollie M – My favorite was the sandpit SL because I liked the rush I got out of it.
- Markus F – Sandpit SL was my favorite activity. It’s fast and exhilarating which is my favorite.
- Huck L – Sandpit SL, it was really fun and difficult because I slid and fell.
- Tai S – Sandpit SL because I made the top 4. It was tough because of all the falling by going direct.
- Jackson R – Sandpits because I liked the speed and sketchiness of how I could slip at any moment.
- Riis P – Sandpit SL because I liked the speed and also the competition.
One mental skill you used today and how did you use it?
- Sonny V – I used re-steer today to perform better at the SL.
- Indy M – I visualized the sandpit SL course.
- Ollie M – Mine was during the sandpits I used breathing. One other is that I used visualization to learn the course.
- Markus F – My one mental skill was positive mindset. In the starting gate I used it to go fast.
- Huck L – I visualized the course for planning the gates, the high line was better.
- Tai S – Breathing while running and focused. That I can do what I put my mind to.
- Jackson R – Not thinking about it, in the sandpits I didn’t sike myself out.
- Riis P – I visualized the course before going down and I controlled my breathing.
What did you learn about yourself today?
- Sonny V – I learned I can prepare myself and I can win. This is important to competitions.
- Indy M – That I could do a front flip.
- Ollie M – I learned that I can push myself really hard. I also learned to use breathing help.
- Markus F – My limits can be pushed very far. In sandpit SL I went so fast.
- Huck L – I like sandpits.
- Tai S – That I’m not bad at Sandpit SL and that I’m ok at high jump.
- Jackson R – I could’ve won Sandpit SL if I didn’t make one mistake. I slipped on the top section.
- Riis P – I learned that I love Sandpit SL and that I have a good vertical.
If you could tell your mom or dad one thing right now, what would it be?
- Indy M – That this camp is so much fun!
- Ollie M – If I could tell my parents something it has been really fun and burpees get easier throughout the week.
- Markus F – I’m having so much fun and I don’t want to go home.
- Huck L – HI!
- Tai S – Hi Mom, it’s good to see you, love you.
- Jackson R – I love you and miss you.
- Riis P – I would tell them I am pushing my limits.
