7:00am Morning run and Burpees is now a routine and that was followed by a huge Breakfast to fuel our morning Circuits! Circuits are a great way to train your body to “red line” and “recover” which helps ski racers finish courses strong and lacrosse players sprint hard in the final minutes! It was a loud and fun and tough workout we did all together!
And in ELITEAM tradition we did some intense Dodgeball. Our final game pitted the campers versus the coaches and for the second week in a row, the campers persevered and won!
Notebook meeting was all about how to “Stear your Fears” – a proven technique to help athletes change the outcome of situations that stress them out. If starts with training ourselves to react to a situation with a positive thought instead of a negative one. You do that as an athlete and you change the outcome to a positive one – every time! It just takes practice!
Then it was on to a rotation of Tramps, Partner Yoga and Cooking! In tramps we follow a progression to get them to push their limits – wherever that limit may be. In partner yoga we challenge them to get in some crazy positions relying on each other’s strength! And for our nutrition session, it was all about the Black Beans and how they would taste in brownies. All thumbs up when we finally got to taste them!
Finally it was back to the field for some more agility work with the famous “Shumbee” Pole Workout. You’ll have to have the campers explain.
One final note. Coach Jimmy who is following his dream of competing on the World Cup ski circuit, has an open challenge to any camper… Do more (confirmed) Burpees than him in one day and he will shave his head! Well, camper Topher took on that challenge and instead of doing just 200 Burpees yesterday, he did 500!!!! Jimmy heard about this and stepped up and also finished with 500. This made me smile because it is about inspiring young kids to push their limits to see what they are actually capable of… Word is still out if a tie means SHAVE or we start again today!!!
Today is Sandpit Slalom Day. Followed by Physical Testing and some more fun Team Challenges. And the day ends with Dress-up, Limbo and an inspirational Movie!
