2018 WC1 Wed- Views, Poetry and a Sense of Accomplishment

July 11, 2018 by ELITEAM

 Today at ELITEAM we…

Upped our game in the bed-making department. Today the boys had a 100% task completion with a grade of “A”. Way to go boys! However, the girls rose to the challenge yet again, with a 100% completion rate and an “A+”. Walk into any room, in any dorm, and it was an impressive sight. Definitely the best beds we’ve seen in 27 years of ELITEAM. A positive way to start the day… “the little things matter”.

Today we had our Adventure hike. Everyone packed a bag lunch, loaded a big yellow bus and off we went to Sugarbush Resort. There were 6 teams of hikers, and in addition to the hike, they all had 5 tasks to complete along the way… build a cairn, write a poem with 8 lines, get a picture of piggy-backs with a view, build a structure of some sort, and knock off 200 burpees. With lots of water breaks and fun along the way, everyone made it to the top!

We had a little siesta time after returning to campus, now the kids are out on the field playing in a soccer tournament. I can hear the screams, squeals, cheering, yells, hoots and hollers from across campus!

Tonight we’ll dial back the physical intensity for their tired little bodies, and instead crank up the fun factor with an epic game of Capture the Flag, followed by some relaxing and restorative yoga.

Daily Challenge-
Today’s theme was “Stronger”- The staff selected Burpees. The kids chose a goal of 500. Yikes, I hope they can walk tomorrow!

Poem by Ali & Molly’s Group-
In ski racing our goal is to be faster
We train to become masters
We bust through the gates like an imperial blaster
We learn and grow from all of our disasters

To my teammates around I couldn’t be fonder
My coach tells me to be careful and watch that hole over yonder
When Doug says a mile, we willl always go longer
Our goal in life is always to be stronger

Poem by Morgan & Jake’s group-
Walking up sugarbush, that makes you tough
Even though the like was rough
Doing rock squats, that makes you stronger
When you want to quit, go a little longer

Eating healthy makes you fit
So you can be as explosive as a rocket ship
Running those hill sprints. That makes you fast
We train so hard we’ll never be last
