About Jessica Jortberg

Advice to young athletes- Keep everything in perspective! Sometimes racing/competing can get tough, but always remember that skiing is SO much fun and at the end of the day, results aren't all that matter.

Nickname- Jess

BA in environmental science and psychology from the University of Denver.

Competitive sports background-
4 year D1 athlete at DU for Nordic skiing
Member of the 2014 NCAA national championship team
7 time all American at junior nationals
North American biathlon champion in 2010
Member of the J1 Scandinavian cup team
Also played competitive soccer my whole life, 4 year MVP

What I’ve learned from sports-
I have learned from skiing that it so important to always smile and have fun. My best races always occurred when I was relaxed and confident. Once you have put in all the hours and hard work, the only thing you can do on the start line is breathe and remember that skiing should always be fun!

Other sports/activities I like-
Love to run, especially compete in running races! Climbing 14ers in Colorado, biking, kayaking, snowshoeing, you name it! Anything outdoorsy and I'm there.

Coaching experience-
This is my 2nd year at ELITEAM as a coach. Also coaching/teaching clinics in the winter for cross-country skiing at Devil's Thumb Ranch.

Unusual talents-
I can touch my tongue to my nose.

Personal/ Fitness goals for 2015-
Compete in the US Mtn Running National Championship in Bend, Oregon this summer! Also continue with my quest to climb all fifty-four 14,000 ft peaks in Colorado! (I'm at 13.)

What I love most about ELITEAM-
l love seeing how goofy yet motivated the kids are to have fun but improve physically and psychologically at the same time.

Favorite “power” food/fuel-
I love smoothies! Especially with chia seeds, almond milk, and a lot of fruit.

Favorite ELITEAM dance move-

The Shopping Cart. Last year, one creative camper added the "Shop Lifter" to it, which was absolutely hilarious!

Most memorable ELITEAM moment-
Andrew's crazy relays. Hilarious!

When I’m not coaching at Eliteam, I’m…
Running! Or hiking 14,000 ft mountains in Colorado, reading a good book in a hammock, and traveling.

My “Motto” in life-
Work hard, play hard, smile always.
